The Upper Bay Ruritan Club was chartered back in 1979 with nine members. Currently, the club has nineteen active members. The local club is part of a National Non-Profit Organization, Ruritan National, that was started in Holland, Virginia back in 1928. So far, there are over 30,000 members nationwide.
The club meets at 7 PM on the second Tuesday of every month at the Zion Methodist Church at 164 W Main St, Cecilton, MD 21913 (see map below).
The Upper Bay Ruritans raise money for anyone in need within the community by hosting different events throughout the year. They have two spaghetti dinners each year, an April Gift Card Raffle, Easter Flower Sale, Carnival Raffle Ticket Sales, and a Gun Raffle in October.
In 2008, the Upper Bay Ruritans started a scholarship fund for local students currently enrolled at Bohemia Manor High School or have graduated from there. These scholarships target the students that would most likely not have a chance to go to college due to finances. Every year the total award amount given continues to increase. The club is now giving $10,000.00 or more annually in scholarships. Additionally, the club is very active in donations to the local churches, fire companies, and elementary schools.
The club is from the community and is dedicated to the community. If you want to learn more about the club or how it directly impacts our community, please consider joining the club for a meeting.
