On July 17, 2026, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) removed the traffic signals at the intersection of MD 213 and MD 282 in Cecilton. This was necessary for public safety following significant vehicle-related damage to one of the poles, and damage to a second pole and the signal control cabinet.
A four-way stop has been implemented at the intersection and will remain in place until a new traffic signal system can be designed and constructed. This may take several months since the concrete pole bases are also damaged and must be replaced in different locations.
SHA asks drivers to allow a little extra time for travel through the area, and be sure to stop behind the white “stop bar” line to allow turning space for trucks and farm equipment.
